How the crypto profit calculator works

The calculator follows your money through a full round trip. When you buy, the exchange takes its fee first, so a $1,000 order with a 0.1% fee buys $999 worth of coins. When you sell, the fee is taken from the sale value. Your result is what you actually receive minus what you actually paid.

Coins = Investment × (1 − buy fee) ÷ buy price
Net proceeds = Coins × sell price × (1 − sell fee)
Profit = Net proceeds − Investment
ROI = Profit ÷ Investment × 100

Worked example

You invest $2,000 in Bitcoin at $60,000 with a 0.1% fee, then sell at $72,000 with another 0.1% fee. You receive 0.0333 BTC, sell it for about $2,395.20 after fees, and keep a net profit of roughly $395 — an ROI of 19.8%. Without fees the same trade looks like a clean 20%, which is why ignoring fees overstates your returns, especially if you trade often.

What is the break-even price?

The break-even sell price is the price at which your net proceeds exactly equal what you spent, including both fees. Any price above it is profit. It is always slightly above your buy price, and the gap widens on platforms with high fees or spreads, such as some instant-buy apps that charge 1.5% or more.

Tips for accurate results

  • Use your exchange's actual fee tier. Maker and taker fees often differ.
  • If you paid a spread rather than an explicit fee, compare the price you paid with the market price at the time and enter the difference as a percentage.
  • Network withdrawal fees are separate from trading fees. Add them to the buy fee if you moved coins to a wallet.
  • For several purchases at different prices, use your average buy price.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate crypto profit with fees?

Multiply the coins you received by the sell price, subtract the sell fee, then subtract your total purchase cost including the buy fee. The result is your net profit or loss.

What is a good ROI on crypto?

There is no fixed benchmark. Compare your ROI with simply holding Bitcoin over the same period and with a broad stock index, and always consider the risk you took to get it.

Does this calculator include taxes?

No. It shows your pre-tax result. Use the crypto tax calculator to estimate the tax on a gain in the US, UK or Canada.

How do I calculate my average buy price?

Add up the total amount spent on every purchase including fees and divide by the total number of coins you hold.
